Family Planning and Emergency Contraception
General contraceptive advice, coil fitting and implant insertion and removal are available in hours at Oakview. Community clinics also provide advice and services and these are accessed here
There are two types of emergency contraception available. On is a hormone pill that you take within 72 hours of unprotected intercourse known as Levonelle one-step. Prescriptions for this are available from the practice, from the family planning clinic or directly from the local pharmacist without prescription. The other form of emergency contraception is the intra-uterine contraceptive device (IUCD) which can be inserted up to five days after unprotected intercourse. This is available at the family planning clinic. Prescriptions and IUCDs are free of charge
If you are registered at Oakview Family Practice and require an emergency contraception please book an appointment with a GP- call and let receptionist know this is a reson for an appointment in order to prioritise your appointment.
